Being a straight Christian, I agree with gay marriage.

My family has a group on LINE. They are sharing lots of disadvantages and misunderstandings of gay marriage and sex education. I didn’t give any opinion with these ridiculous views, but after one of my family said she was so happy because the results of this referendum and she said that there are still many Taiwanese who have "normal thoughts", I just couldn’t help to be against her. I gave a long speech to the whole family to show my views. I think the people who are against gay marriage are abnormal, not the opposite. Gay people can’t get married with their lover because of what? Because you said no? You have no right to block anyone’s right to pursue happiness.
I’m so frustrated that many people don’t listen to others, don’t even try to do some research. Instead, they choose to believe unfounded information. In my opinion, marriage is not just two lovers’ combination. It also means that you have the protection of marriage from law. Your partner can help you to make decisions when you are in trouble and can’t make decisions by yourself, for example, accident, terminal disease, cancer etc. But gay people couldn’t participate this thing because the law doesn’t protect them. Some human rights have been fought for decades such as Women, African American, freedom of speech, personal freedom.
Shouldn’t we have these? You definitely will say we should have these because you understand these rights are right and that’s what we deserve. This is the same for gay marriage. All men are created equal. I admit that I don’t go to church, I don’t read the Bible or donate money to church. You may think I can’t even call myself as a Christian, but I think God is not in Bible or in the word of mouth, God is in our mind. I don’t think discriminating against each other is God’s purpose. God is our Saviour, not you. Jesus said: “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.” “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
As we categorize, we put labels; therefore, differentiate and discriminate. We are all born, not with the same opportunities but will all be unborn the same, in death. No one is better than anyone and vice versa. We are all just people, not Asian, not Taiwanese, not white or blue collar, not male or female, not gay or straight, not normal or abnormal. We, are just PEOPLE. -Andy
