We are going to talk about "working for yourself" this time! Join us this Sunday or sign up for a new group for Saturday! OK, OK, a quick clarification. WTF meant "water fountain" here and definitely not the F word.

An actual view of Andy's office

SO! You don't like your job. You think there are better places to be. Your colleague/manager/boss sucks. You are underpaid and overworking. You want to have a balanced lifestyle... Do these sentences describe more or less your current situation? All of a sudden there is information about self-employed people on TV, the internet, in every library book. Then the idea hit you like a rock. "I should work for myself !", you shouted... in your head, in the shower, or to your pillow.

We're not here to say what is good or bad because it is different for everyone. That said, here's what you can know from us. And before our perspective, there's a very interesting comparison from this site:

Let's clarify this term first. What does "work for oneself" mean? It usually refers to "self-employment", a.k.a. freelance.

To freelance means you take on cases. Here's a list of 10 hot freelance jobs of our time according to N26,

  1. Developer (coder, programmer)

  2. Designer

  3. Writer or copywriter

  4. Marketing professional

  5. Translator

  6. Videographer

  7. Accountant

  8. HR manager

  9. SEO professional

  10. PR or branding

Of course, the above-mentioned jobs can also be positions exclusively for companies. To make a clearer difference, here are some jobs that are usually in the company.

  1. ANY jobs starting with C... (CEO, COO, CFO, CMO, CTO)

  2. Delivery (Pelican, UPs, FedEx...etc.)

  3. Security guard

  4. Positions in Hotels

  5. positions in hospitals

  6. Positions in Manufacturing

  7. Positions in the government

  8. Positions in the transportation industry

  9. Positions in the food industry, except owners

  10. Basically, every entry-level, and long-hour jobs

Back to "Andy's office", yes, it is just his home. He works where he lives, with a title he makes for himself, and without an organization or company. He works for himself, at least in his opinion.

This is what could happen when you work for yourself + from home. We might think that work is one-dimensional but as it is displayed here. In one hour of a lesson, you only see a face over there but Andy needs to multi-task. There are messages both related and unrelated from social media, from apps, from the phone, and there are notes to check, make, and explain. The only upside in this picture is probably that the tank top but he wears a tank top anywhere as well.

"You want to work for yourself ?", we ask again. Are you ready to do 5 things at a time, look in all directions including your back, and plan your entire day from a boring company schedule to a boring schedule you make? Wait, you're already doing that? Yes, sometimes there's really a thin line between the content of each work style. Perhaps you're already overworking but when you are given a blank schedule, do you have the determination to fill it up "in the right way"?

That is something we will talk about on Sunday.

We are full of speakers on Sunday but for anyone reading this far, you are very welcomed to sign up for a Saturday night meeting (20:00)
