Feminism is a very broad concept and theory of achieving the equality of sexes starting in the early 20th century in all fields including politics, economics, and a lot more. They are against the idea that men are always the priority and females are treated unfairly within society. However, the feminist movements are not trying to bring hatred to men. It tries to eliminate discrimination against women.

At the end of the 20th century, the feminist theory of international relations was brought up. The feminist believes that traditional international relation is filled with Hegemonism and the idea that only men are responsible for the security of a nation. The rights of women are forgotten. An example is that: The French Revolution, the Russian revolution are all focusing on economic classes, race, and nationality but none of them are fighting for the rights of women. From the realist point of view, military force is needed to protect the people of a nation. However, feminist thinks that this idea ignores the factors of family violence, conflicts between races, and so on in a country. It results in the concept of women are the group of people who needs to be protected instead of the ones that are able to protect others.

From my perspective, the feminist international relations theory did influence state behavior. In world war two, the Japanese colonized many territories in Asia such as Korea, China, Taiwan, etc. Many of the women in these places are forced to become comfort women. This is an extreme act of seeing women as a lower-class human than men which is something we couldn’t even imagine and wouldn’t happen in most of the region that feminism is popular in the world now.

I also believe that gender-related issues are a mighty influence inside and outside of a nation. For example, Tsai Ing-Wen was elected as the president of Taiwan in 2016 which is an extraordinary thing in Asian society. However, does this really reflects that the right of women in this country is as equal as a man? I believe the answer is no, but the rights of women are catching up. The labor participation rate of women is declining after the age of 30 and laws were set up clearer to protect the right to work after birth. This is a very direct example of how gender influences a nation.

I believe that greater gender equality in government significantly alters the nature of international relations. As I mentioned in the second paragraph, the traditional international relations focus on the security of a nation in the part where the country needs to protect itself from fears of other invaders which ignores the insecure in the nation itself which I believe under gender equality, the international relations would change dramatically.
