Building a Racial Wall, Literally

It's almost a month since the U.S. government shutdown! On a side note here, it is better to focus more on world news (guilty for knowing more on that of the news from the U.S...) and reflect on our lives.

Obviously, we have no business in the "Wall War World", or do we...?

To fill you in, here are some quick facts on [The U.S. Shutdown] in plain words :

  1. Trump wants a border wall and is denied by Congress

  2. it is not the first SD but is the longest (35+ days so far)

  3. it has caused more than the building of the wall itself (6 billion v.s. 5.7)

  4. workers either work without pay or are asked to leave

  5. it has serious consequences, i.e. airport security, education...etc

and also an unnecessary fact here...

Trump wall is est. 3,145 km v.s. The Great Wall is 21,196.18 km

Is the wall the reason for the shutdown or is it the other way? Perhaps neither!

Let's assume that the wall is how it is intended to be, for border security. Yes, there are immigrants trying to come into America constantly and for both legally and illegally. The reason for the later is usually out of necessity, i.e. poverty, crime rate, war.... in their original countries. There are indeed a lot of those people and are addressed as "the caravan" and by Trump and wall supporters, often as "criminals, drug dealers, job takers".

Since the border wall is a big deal, it's obviously going to cost a lot. Trump has power but not absolute power. The funding for the wall is controlled by the U.S. Congress which is clearly against such construction. Hence, the government is shut down.

Being one of the most powerful countries in the world, should the U.S. government help? The answer is... absolutely yes!

OK, you may say that it's reasonable for Trump to be such "immigrant-phobic" because he puts "America First". That was his campaign slogan and therefore, not letting people flooding into the country is to show respect to his supporters.

  • Wrong. The U.S. has been the beacon for dreams and hopes for everyone. This is the land of the free and that was the American spirit.

  • Wrong. By criminalizing those who are yet to come, it has created fear among everyone in the country and fear spreads like wildfire. People are imagining ghosts.

  • Wrong. People lose respect for this country and being proud to be an American wasn't something that just happened easily. Once the pride is gone, the aftermath is catastrophic.

  • Wrong. Criminals do not have a race. Crime is an act, not a face.

Perhaps the wall was never for migration policies. It just doesn't make sense. There are all the ways in the world for border security and the Americans are telling the world that "the wall is the solution"? It is something you can definitely see but what has the history told us about blocking? Rules are made to be broken and so is the wall.

  • Can the 5.7 BILLION USD not be used to hire more border control personnel?

  • Can the 5.7 BILLION USD not be used to create a migration management?

  • Can the 5.7 BILLION USD not be used to create more jobs for U.S. citizens?

I repeat. THE WALL MAKES NO SENSE unless the purpose isn't as it should be. Trump's wall doesn't seem so. However, anyone who follows on his conduct as president might doubt whether he could be a mastermind of a bigger plan which none of us knows. Personally speaking, I believe that this wall is nothing but a symbol for Trump's power. It started merely as a metaphorical tool to win the election and now to stay in power. No wall, no power, and he cannot be more upset if he doesn't get to be in the spotlight. Something we should all be afraid of is the ego of an old man.

We're an insular nation; there aren't real borders but the ocean. People come in by flight, rarely by ship and through the customs/passport control so we know exactly who people are (we'd like to think so LOL). The rules are simple; meet the requirements and you shall pass those gates.

The U.S. shutdown is quite interesting, I must say. Don't get me wrong. It's also extremely moronic, especially the wall. It got me thinking, what really is the wall. Could we have built a wall without knowing it? Are there walls between you and others? Why is that? Must there be walls?

OK, let's all for the mental part. Tell me what you think about the U.S. shutdown, border wall or anything related to the topic.

Is the shutdown justifiable?

Should there be a strong border wall?
